Cacao is at the heart of Kaboom Bites. As long-time chocolate lovers, the idea grew out of a desire to experience this “food of the gods” (what its Latin name theobroma cacao translates to) unadulterated, in its most basic form. The essence of it is simplicity, both dietarily and environmentally. The more we can eat ingredients right from their original source, the more we live what Costa Ricans call “pure vida,” a pure life. We are committed to being as environmentally and socially responsible as possible in everything we do.

We are so happy to be obtaining our cacao beans from ABOCFA, an organic fair trade farming cooperative in Ghana that has had traceability and transparency in mind for many years, partnering with the International Cocoa Initiative to create fair and just employment practices, and eradicate the child slavery and labor that has plagued the West African cacao trade.

This is all connected to how we tread upon Earth in our lives. How can we need less, use less, and be more simple?
Our Founder:
Katherine Fleissner has worked across the culinary sector since 1994, working in professional kitchens and running a vegan pastry business, holistic confections company, and wholesale tempeh manufacturing operation. The spark to cook healthy foods was ignited in high school, when she discovered the macrobiotic way of eating, and her realization of the need for environmental responsibility came shortly afterwards.
For the past three decades, she has continuously researched trends in natural foods, participated in much R & D, and cultivated her passion for nutrition and sharing delicious rejuvenative foods.
Also having an artistic background, she has always enjoyed working with her hands. She has also taught cooking to adults, art to children, and yoga to all ages.
The umbrella to Kaboom Bites is E & E’s, which she created to honor and support her beloved daughters, Eliza and Emma.
